Within the realm of leadership in Celestial Church of Christ, loyalty is a common language spoken among members. Some elders prioritize loyalty to the established authority over loyalty to God, allowing those in power to maintain their positions. The ongoing dispute within the Church has sparked a debate on the true meaning of loyalty, with the some Elders emphasizing loyalty to the Pastor’s position.
It is crucial to carefully examine the significance of loyalty to a position, considering the seat’s role in the presence of God. Just as Jesus Christ remained loyal to God, followers must contemplate whether loyalty to the Pastor’s seat should be reciprocated. If members are expected to be loyal to the Pastor’s seat, then it is equally important for the Pastor’s seat to demonstrate loyalty to its followers.
The fact remains that some followers are loyal to the constituted authority, but may be disloyal to God by prioritizing keeping the doors and windows of the authority house open for easy access. The question arises: is loyalty based on what God says or what the leader wants?
The Pastor Founder, Rev. SBJ Oshoffa not only demanded loyalty from the early members who followed and stood with him, but he also reciprocated that loyalty. He always fostered an atmosphere for them to express their opinions, allowed them to contribute to his vision and mission, and instilled confidence in their ability to lead the Church while he resided in Benin Republic.
Similarly, Rev. AA Bada implemented structural changes that are still in place today. Loyalty was not a one-way street with Rev. AA Bada, as he also showed loyalty to his followers. He never went against agreed decisions or created division among members in the name of loyalty to the Pastor’s seat.
In the current Church environment, loyalty does not necessarily equate to unity. Members may make flawed statements as a misguided display of loyalty to the Pastor’s seat. However, true loyalty cannot be measured by mere actions taken without considering the consequences. While the seat may demand loyalty, the question remains: is the seat loyal to its followers as its predecessors were?
In conclusion, loyalty in Celestial Church sphere should be rooted in a genuine commitment to God and His teachings, rather than blind allegiance to positions of authority. By upholding loyalty with discernment and integrity, we can truly honor our faith and serve one another in a manner that reflects Christ’s example.
Hymn 291 serves as a guide for determining our level of loyalty as members of this great church. It explicitly outlines the responsibilities assigned to us. Our loyalty should be defined by following the instructions given to us as children of God, rather than being loyal to any other factors.
