1. Celestial Church started in 1947, following a spiritual voyage and deliverance of a former carpenter, SBJ Oshoffa in Benin Republic.
2. The founder of Celestial Church of Christ was born in 1909 just like the great Chief Obafemi Awolowo. He was also related to former president of Nigeria, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo.
3. According to Celestial Perogative News, Papa Oshoffa was a methodist before he was given divine message and power to start a movement, which later turned out to be one of the biggest white garment christian movement in Africa.
4. While alive, Oshoffa's two major lieutenants, the late Pastor AA Bada and Baba Ajanlekoko were both former staff of Nigerian Breweries. Ajanlekoko was the first to visit the Celestial Church in Makoko on the prompting one of his wives that looking for fruits of the womb. He went reluctantly but lived and worshipped there all his life as God answered their prayers.
5. Papa Oshoffa died in 1985. Contrary to speculations, he did not die in a car accident. When he was taken to hospital following the car accident, he was okay but everything pointed to the fact that his time was up. Before embarking to the trip in Ibadan, he was told and he also premonitions of what was going to happen. He served the church for 38 years.
6. Oshoffa's mother was a native of Imeko city in Ogun state. Imeko is a border town between Nigeria and Ogun state. Oshoffa laid the foundation for what is today called Basilica. He also promoted the spiritual pilgrimage to Imeko for the yearly convocation of the church.
