During the meeting, Pastor Founder Pa SBJ Oshoffa unequivocally distanced his ministry from the abhorrent act of child abuse, particularly through the misguided notion of deliverance. The Pastor’s statement explicitly condemned the use of physical force, specifically the beating of the afflicted with loins as a means of healing or spiritual intervention. Such practices were deemed incompatible with the Church’s doctrine.
Regrettably, this Practice had persisted within the Church for over four decades. Those who were born into the Church during the 1970s and 1980s can attest to the distressing reality of children being subjected to physical harm under the guise of prophetic deliverance. Consequently, numerous shepherds within the Church have faced legal repercussions, having been arrested for their involvement in the abuse of children.
A video went viral on a social media platform, depicting a female prophetess physically assaulting a child while claiming that the child was possessed by an evil spirit. This incident has raised concerns within our Church, as such practices are considered unusual and unacceptable.
In accordance with the Child Abuse Act (2003) & the National Human Rights Commission Act, individuals such as MSE Banjo, Sup/Evang Akinterinwa and Sup/Evang Olarewaju who are registered with the Federal Government as registered BOT members of the Church can be held accountable for child abuse. These individuals have the right to be sued under this act.Furthermore, it is imperative for Pastor EMF Oshoffa to initiate a peaceful negotiation with the registered Board of Trustees (BOT) in order to restore the Church’s administrative structure to address matter like Child abuse. This will not only strengthen the Church’s position as a religious organization but also ensure compliance with the laws of Nigeria.
In light of these distressing revelations, it is imperative that we address the issue of child abuse within our Church . We must hold ourselves accountable and strive for a future where the safety and well-being of our children are paramount. By unequivocally denouncing such practices and actively working towards their eradication, we can ensure that our Church remains a sanctuary of love, compassion, and spiritual growth for all its members.
