Let us carefully examine each viewpoint in accordance with the public discourse from members who align with these perspectives.
It was Pa SBJ Oshoffa who introduced Imeko town to members of Celestial Church. This town holds great significance as it represents the essence of motherhood to the Pastor Founder, being the native town of his mother. His unwavering love for the town is evident through his plans to transform the environment into a standard beyond human imagination.
In 1981, the Pastor initiated the construction of modern infrastructure in Imeko including hospitals, a well-connected road network, schools and other developments. The Pastor Founder also ordered that his body should be buried at Imeko while the town will be regard has the Jerusalem Pilgrimage for every Celestial members.
This endeavor was in response to spiritual instructions received by the Pastor with the aim of transforming the town’s narrative. Interestingly, the then king of Imeko confirmed the appearance of an angel in his dream, who prophesied the establishment of a white garment church in the town. It was believed that the presence of Celestial church would elevate Imeko into a city.
The manifestation of the dream occurred when the Pastor Founder approached the town for the purpose of worship. The Church acquired several hectares of land, not for personal gain, but to spread the message of salvation through Christ. In recognition of his dedication, the Pastor Founder bestowed the rank of Honorary Senior Evangelist upon 13 esteemed individuals, whom he encouraged to commence the construction of the basilica. Unfortunately, this purpose was not fulfilled due to the sudden passing of the Pastor Founder.
After 1985, the town faced the consequences of a divided Church, with numerous court cases still pending. It is evident that the town has suffered from a delayed response to its needs, as the Church has not been able to establish effective leadership. This has allowed individuals to exploit the weakened system for personal gain, disregarding the principles of God that should guide the Church.
The Land Use Act grants the Government the right of ownership over the nation’s land, while also ensuring that every citizen has the fundamental right to purchase land and reside within Nigeria’s territory. In accordance with these laws, the RCCG has been given the opportunity to invest in Imeko, following Celestial Church’s failure to seize this chance due to the lackadaisical attitude of certain elders who prioritize personal gain over the mission of Christ.
It is important to acknowledge the significant efforts made by the registered BOT in their pursuit of constructing the Basilica, with numerous contributions from various parishes that aimed to reshape the church’s history. The same registered BOT worked toward the establishment of a Private University, known as Celestial University. This decision was unfortunately abandoned due to the injection of negativity by certain individuals who influenced the Pastor to dissolve the registered BOT without considering the potential consequences for the future of the Celestial Church.
It’s disheartening to know that Imeko will no longer bear Celestial City again, as the town will be address has Celestial- Redeemed City. In order to restore the town’s prosperity and spiritual well-being, it is crucial for the Church to unite under strong and principled leadership. Only then can Imeko regain its rightful place as a Celestial City, guided by the teachings of Christ.
