The implementation of the restructuring system has sparked a range of reactions among Church members. Some individuals believe that the system, which involves transitioning from State Evangelists to Regional Heads will exacerbate existing administrative issues within the Church.
The discussions surrounding this restructuring began with the establishment of Regional Heads within each State. Currently, there are 8 Regions within Lagos State, as well as in some states in the South West and South South regions. This has resulted in states lacking a designated leader, potentially leading to power struggles among Regional Heads in their respective state.
Across the Six geopolitical zones in Nigeria, Celestial authority has appointed 36 Regional Heads. It is crucial that this new system aligns with the established governance structures within the country. The presence of 7 Regional Heads in some states highlights the challenges which the Pastor will face in overseeing the mandates of all 36 Regional Heads within their jurisdiction.
A senior clergy member, speaking with Celestial Prerogative News, analyzed the new system as an attempt to grant parishes autonomy without any assessments or control of activities. He explained that some parishes may begin to move to other regions within their state, and criticized the system for allowing regional heads to present themselves as leaders without respecting the authority of a particular individual in their respective states.
Another senior clergy member stated that the system has hindered the Church from participating in government activities in their states. He noted that elected governors will be inviting multiple representatives from a single state, while other organizations will attend such functions with only one representative.
One of the newly appointed regional head, also speaking with Celestial Prerogative News expressed disagreement with the current structure but acknowledged the Pastor’s decision. He suggested that the Restructuring Committee should have focused on addressing challenges within the Church administration and appointing effective State Evangelists to enhance the Church’s operations.
In conclusion, it is advisable for the Church authority to reconsider the newly established system, which has faced criticism from members. The suggestion is to create Regional Heads encompassing multiple states in the South West/South South regions, rather than assigning Regional Heads to individual states. This approach would involve Most Superior Evangelists in the process of merging states to establish Regional Heads, ensuring a more cohesive and effective structure.
