On the memorable Friday of 7th of April 2023, during the 12 noon service at Makoko, Prophetess Deborah Oshoffa was moved to tears as she lamented the resistance faced by her late father’s legacy from certain hidden elders within the church. The atmosphere was charged as Most Superior Evangelist Deji Nunayon delivered a powerful sermon, unaware of the arrival of Pastor Rev EMF Oshoffa.
Upon learning of the Pastor’s presence, M/S/E Nunayon swiftly directed the choir to sing a traditional church hymn, anticipating the Pastor’s entrance into the sanctuary. However, to everyone’s surprise, Rev EMF Oshoffa chose to remain in his car until the sermon concluded. This unexpected turn of events led to a sudden end to the sermon, leaving a sense of anticipation and curiosity among the congregation.
The courageous young members of Makoko parish, along with youth from other parishes prevented M/S/E Nunayon from leaving their parish. They insisted that M/S/E Nunayon should greet the Pastor before departing. The youth also maintained that the Pastor could not enter Mercyland until he came down from his car to allow M/S/E Nunayon to extend his greetings.
The youths acted as peacemakers In an effort to reposition the Church structure. However, this division within the Church ran deeper than the youth realized. They took on the role of mediators in an attempt to improve the Church’s situation. Unfortunately, their efforts were thwarted by some elders within the Church who manipulated the situation. The narrative was twisted to suggest that the youth had embarrassed the Pastor and M/S/E Nunayon was effectively blocked from leaving Makoko that day.
Prophetess Deborah Oshoffa publicly denounced the actions of the elders who had taken advantage of the situation to exacerbate the unrest within the Church. She saw the intention of some of the Elders to hijack the situation to their own advantage by further presenting MSE Nunayon in a negative stereotypes to the Pastor, she insisted that the gate should be open as some Elders changed the narrative.
It is clear that there are underlying tensions within the Church that must be addressed in order to foster unity and harmony among its members.
